Chicago Studies Quarter 2017 began with a bang this year as we explored The Historic Town of Pullman. Students had the opportunity to critically engage with an active site of historic preservation and glean further information from the historic preservation society's President who joined them at the end of their tour. After visiting Pullman students, most for the first time, wandered through the breathtaking South Shore Cultural Center, famously home to the wedding of Barak and Michelle Obama. At the South Shore Cultural Center the CSQ Cohort had a fine dinning experience at the Parrot Cage restaurant featuring decadent chocolate cake and delectable salmon. Students came away from the day with a new idea of what a "company town" can look like and the amazing things neighborhoods can accomplish when they come together to preserve those structures that make our history.
