Join Dean Boyer, Professor Mark Hansen, and Chicago Studies for the South Side History Bike Tour! This tour, conducted every fall quarter, has been an annual event for 20 years. The tour begins on the University of Chicago campus, heads north through historic Bronzeville, turns west in the South Loop, and finally returns to Hyde Park through Bridgeport, Back of the Yards, and Kenwood. On the tour, participants learn about Chicago politics, history, and economics at ten significant South Side sites. As one participant remarked, "There's nothing like experiencing the neighborhoods at the level of a bike, especially with such knowledgeable guides."
Bicycle marshaling for this event is provided by our partners at Blackstone Bicycle Works, a youth leadership and education project of the Experimental Station. Special thanks also to the Chicago Department of Transportation and the Chicago Police Department for their support of this event.
Stay tuned for next year's tour, which will take place in Fall 2018.
