The UCSC and Chicago Studies are pleased to offer our Spring "Deep South Side" Sustainability Bike Tour, exploring the ways that faith, commerce, transportation, and the natural environment have sustained the deep South Side. The tour takes place in the spring quarter and is entering its 3rd year! It is led by the Undergraduate Dean, John Boyer, and Political Science Professor Mark Hansen.
The tour, which routes south from campus to 98th Street and then returns along the lakefront, includes stops such as St. Michael the Archangel Church and the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in South Shore, Calumet Park, the Bikur Cholim Synagogue, Crowley's Yacht Yard, the historic Southworks US Steel site, Jackson Park, and the South Shore Cultural Center.
Registration is now open for this spring's tour, which will take place May 19, 2018. We will convene in front of the Reg (on 57th St.) at 9:45 AM, and the tour will set off by no later 10:15 AM, with a return to campus by approximately 3:00 PM.
Note: This is the same date as the Summer Breeze music festival on campus.
Note: The rain date for this event (originally 5/20) has been canceled due to a change in Dean Boyer's schedule. If a rain date becomes necessary due to inclement weather on May 19, we will announce it here and to all registered riders via email.
