"Deep South Side" Sustainability Bike Tour

Sunday, May 19, 2019

We are pleased to offer the Spring Quarter "Deep South Side" Sustainability Bike Tour, led by Dean of the College John Boyer and Political Science Professor Mark Hansen. Now entering its fourth year, the tour explores the ways that faith, commerce, transportation, and the natural environment have sustained the deep South Side.

The path we will take routes south from campus to 98th Street and then returns along the lakefront, includes stops such as St. Michael the Archangel Church and the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in South Shore, Calumet Park, the Bikur Cholim Synagogue, Crowley's Yacht Yard, the historic Southworks US Steel site, Jackson Park, and the South Shore Cultural Center.

Registration is now open for this spring's tour, which will take place Sunday, May 19, 2019.  We will convene in front of the Reg (on 57th St.) at 11 AM, and the tour will set off by no later 11:15 AM, with a return to campus by approximately 3:30 PM.  Participants should provide their own bicycle (in working order, please) and bike helmet. The total ride length is approximately 20 miles.
