Media Burn Archive

A Chicago Studies Data in Dialogue session with Sara Chapman

Media Burn Archive is a non-profit organization dedicated to collecting, restoring, and distributing documentary and television footage produced by artists, activists, and community groups. Founded in 2003 by Tom Weinburg, Media Burn Archive has archived over 8000 videos from filmmakers all around the world in an effort to preserve and highlight human beings and communities from all walks of life. Over 3000 hours of footage may seem daunting, but Chicago Studies' "Data in Dialogue" session will help you to understand this incredible resource—and we promise, it will take significantly less than 3000 hours.

Sara Chapman (AB 2004), Media Burn's executive director, will be walking us through the origins of their collection, the rationale behind their mission, and how that mission informs the media they select and preserve. We especially encourage students and faculty interested in data management, film, and social justice to join us for this unique conversation.

Session recorded live on Wednesday, 10/28, 12:30-1:30 PM CDT.  View the film on YouTube, above or at this URL.
