The Future of Chicago's Small Business

A Chicago Studies Conversation

The past year has been devastating for both the national economy and for local business. While large companies struggled to weather the storm, how have small businesses managed to cope with the devastating effects of the Coronavirus? As vaccinations continue and we can see the light at the end of the tunnel, how is the world changing for small businesses?

This one-hour session will feature a live conversation and Q&A with small business owners in Chicago:

  • Erik Archambeault is the owner and co-founder of Provisions, which began in 2015 as a "one stop shop" for the perfect dinner party and has evolved into a modern version of the classic General Store with locations in Rogers Park and Uptown.

  • Tim Hannifan & Mia Sakai are the owners and co-founders of Ándale Market, a curated corner store for ‘best of’ essentials, unique foods, local and imported goods, gifts, and more. The shop opened amidst the pandemic and has already become a favorite in Andersonville.

Join us to learn more about the behind-the-scenes of operating a small business. We'll discuss the ways in which they've adapted their business plan for the pandemic (and been changed by it), as well as the ways in which neighbors (and neighborhoods) can support the success of ventures like theirs both now and in the future.
