The Future of Urban Farming

A Chicago Studies Conversation

This one-hour session will feature a conversation and live podcast recording about the future of urban farming in Chicago through and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. Part of our broader Chicago Studies Conversations and Chicago Futures series. The recording of this session will be released as a podcast shortly after the event.

We will hear from Sydney Coyle, a graduate student at DePaul University studying Sustainable Urban Development with a focus on Food and Environmental Justice. In partnership with the Chicago Food Policy Action Council, Sydney participates in research on food justice and equity in Chicago, and is currently working on mapping Chicago's 300 mile radius foodshed to connect local farmers to Chicago's market. Sydney puts her research into practice at the Gary Comer Youth Center at their Education Garden cultivating local produce for the Grand Crossing community.
