Student Authors Speak

A BA Research Panel

Meet the recently-graduated authors of the best original research on the city, as anthologized in the newly published volume 10 of Chicago Studiesthe College's premiere journal of undergraduate research.  With research that explored topics from public art to public policy, and employed methods from historiography to mental mapping, these five student researchers expanded their respective fields while contributing to the broader body of knowledge which UChicago has built about the city by the lake.  Come hear how (and why) they chose their topics, what resources they found most helpful, and how they overcame the challenges of going beyond theory to engage specific places, people, and times; the panel discussion will include open Q&A with the authors.

Featured authors include:

  • Kaesha Freyaldenhoven, Rush More: The Monumental Mural, A Study of Contemporary Chicago Public Art
  • Olivia Jia, Boundary Maintenance and the Built Environment
  • Eleanor Khirallah, Presumed Innocent, Yet Purged from the Rolls
  • Breck Radulovic, Chicago at the End of Time: Millennial Imaginings in the World's Fair City
  • Nora Sullivan, Repurposed or Unpurposed? The Evolution of Chicago Public School Buildings Closed in 2013

Students writing or considering writing Chicago-focused BA's are strongly encouraged to attend!  This event will be entirely virtual and take place over Zoom. Zoom link will be sent to registrants on the morning of the event. Registration is now open.
