Kasia's Deli

Serving legendary pierogies since 1982

A successful small business known for its delicious home-cooked food, Kasia’s Deli is located in the Ukrainian Village at the corner of Hoyne and Chicago Ave. Opened in 1982 by Kazimiera Bober, who also went by the name “Kasia,” the deli thrived on offering delicious home-cooked meals from Eastern European cuisine.

Bober immigrated to the United States from Poland in the 1970s, but up until the opening of Kasia’s Delia, she worked a variety of jobs trying to make ends meet. After capitalizing on her ability to cook, Bober opened her deli and began sharing her timeless recipes with those in the community. Soon enough, it was clear that her pierogies (sweet or savory-filled dumplings that are boiled and then pan-fried) were the fastest-selling item on the menu. After years of running the deli, Kasia’s Deli received multiple awards for having “the best pierogi in Chicago.” Bober’s acclaim grew more after she was invited to share food from the deli at the well-known Taste of Chicago food festival.

Bober’s pierogies have been tasted by politicians such as President Clinton and Mayor J. Daley, as well as many others. The deli’s pierogies were also offered aboard United Airline flights, a huge win for a small Chicago business. With a slew of accolades and awards, one must wonder what kind of magic goes into making such delicious Eastern European food? Luckily, Kasia’s Deli continues to be a family-operated business, so make sure to stop by when visiting the Ukrainian Village. While Kasia may no longer be with us, her legendary pierogies and long-lasting business are.
