Bronzeville Winery

The sister project of The Silver Room in Hyde Park

Created to complement The Silver Room in Hyde Park, Bronzeville Winery is the brainchild of Eric Williams (who also owns The Silver Room). Cecilia Cuff, a renowned hospitality designer, is Williams’ managing partner. While an opening date is still up in the air, the space aims to open late in the summer of 2021. Bronzeville Winery will function not only as a diverse wine bar but as a tailored eatery and cultural space. With live music and an in-house garden, Bronzeville Winery will redefine entrepreneurship in the Bronzeville neighborhood.

Made possible by a $250,000 grant from Chicago’s Neighborhood Opportunity Fund, Bronzeville Winery will be located at 44th Street and Cottage Grove. The Neighborhood Opportunity Fund functions by redistributing money collected from fees that developers pay to construct larger-than-normal high rises in downtown Chicago. These fees are then used to fund grants for businesses and community-enriching projects on the South and West sides of the city.

Receiving attention from Mayor Lightfoot and Alderman Sophia King (4th Ward), Bronzeville Winery represents what is hopefully a larger pattern of re-investment in the southside communities of Chicago. Due to its historic and impactful past, many organizations and individuals alike have made efforts to revitalize the Bronzeville community. Bronzeville Winery is a tangible example of those efforts.
